Cameroon is located in West, Central Africa. In the bordered in Nigeria to the West. Cameroon is slightly bigger than California. The population of Cameroon is 20 Million. Cameroons achieved independence on January 1, 1960 as the Republic
of
Cameroon.
After Guinea, it was the second of France's colonies in Sub-Saharan
Africa to be granted independence. The following year, on October 1,
1961, the largely Muslim northern two-thirds of British Cameroons voted
to join Nigeria,the largely Christian southern third, Southern Cameroons,
voted to join with the Republic of Cameroon to form the Federal
Republic
of
Cameroon.
The formerly French and British regions each maintained substantial autonomy.The French Cameroon became independent in the 1960. In 1972 everything was replaced with the federation with a Unitary state, the United Republic of Cameroon. They inhabited the forest of the South and East Provinces.

Cameroon is slowly becoming a more democratic nation. The political power is still in the hands of their President Paul BYA. He has been in charged since 1980. Some issues that Cameroon is facing today are unemployment dropping many are below the poverty line. Most of the works make at least 1.25 per day. This makes them the poorest country in the world. They are also have an education problem many of the people able to read are above the age of 15. Many of them have illness. Most of the adults have HIV or AIDS. 40,000 of the deaths are due to this. There at least 40,000 deaths a year. Cameroon has many illness that cause most of the deaths. HIV and AIDS are the many killers. Cameroon has not a great economy nor a bad. Thanks to the oil that is produced (found) most people are able to make a living. They have a relatively inequitable distribution of income and top heavy civil service. The EU is the main trading partner of Cameroon. It receives 80% of the contributions of the import.
